Gunmen kidnap two teachers in Basilan

ISABELA City: Gunmen abducted two male teachers in a remote coastal village in the southern province of Basilan on Wednesday night, police said yesterday. The abducted teachers, identified as Frederick Banot and Cherden Masong, were employees of the Charity Children Foundation Inc., a non-governmental organisation in Basilan Island. The heavily armed marauders swooped a staff house at the village of Tairan, Lantawan township and seized the two victims at gunpoint, police said.
5 absconding prisoners held 
DAVAO CITY: Five of the 22 prisoners who bolted a main prison in southern Philippine province of Bukidnon on Wednesday had been recaptured, and pursuit operations were still going on, police said today. At least 17 inmates facing drug and murder cases are still on the loose following the jailbreak at a prison facility in Malaybalay city, in Mindanao’s Bukidnon province at 3pm, said Glenn dela Torre, provincial police chief.
Three dead in Batangas heist
BATANGAS: The cashier of a lodging inn in Batangas City and two robbery suspects were killed while three others — two employees and a third suspect — were wounded in a heist before dawn yesterday, police said. Killed were Donna Blancaflor, cashier of El Richland Travel Lodge in Barangay Sorosoro Karsada, Batangas City, and the two unidentified robbery suspects. The third suspect, Israel Aquino, was wounded along with employees Christian Jay Velila, 18, and Justine Macalintal. Agencies
