DOHA: Children with communication problems should be given immediate medical attention, says an expert.
A specialist should be consulted if a child at the age of three doesn’t ask for things like food, toys as it could be a sign of communication problems, said Omar Al Sahrif, Senior Speech Therapist at Al Ahli Hospital, during a lecture on ‘Identification and Detection of Communication Problems’ held at the Al Ahli Hospital.
“Some parents communicate wrong with the children. If the child is not asking for something or responding they shout and scold the children, this should be avoided as the child might have a communication problem,” said Dr Al Sahrif.
“In such cases parents shouldn’t wait long but take the child to a specialist,” he added.
The bilingual lecture on ‘Identification and Detection of Communication Problems’ held as part of series of lectures the Al Ahli Hospital is set to hold on different health issues.
