Islamabad: A man in Pakistan’s Punjab province set his wife on fire on Sunday for refusing to transfer her plot of land in his name.
Ghullam Abbas, of Faisalabad metropolis’s Sabina Town, wanted his wife to transfer a plot in her name over to him.
Upon her refusal, Abbas doused his wife with petrol during a heated argument, and set her alight, Geo News reported.
The critically burnt woman succumbed at the hospital. Her husband was taken into police custody.
Faisalabad, formerly known as Lyallpur, is the third largest metropolis in Pakistan, the second largest in the province of Punjab after Lahore, and a major industrial centre in the heart of Pakistan. The city was renamed ‘Faisalabad’ in honour of King Faisal of Saudi Arabia.
