DOHA: The new public parks in Umm Salal and Al Shahaniya will open to the public after the Eid Al Adha holidays, a senior official from the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning has said.
Mohammed Ali Al Khouri, Director, Public Parks Department, said work on both parks was almost complete and authorities were equipping them with required facilities, local Arabic daily Al Raya reports.
“The ministry is exerting efforts to build more outdoor venues like public parks for families and children,” he said. “All new parks are unique with improved architecture and facilities compared to the old ones.”
He said parks are essential for families who want to take their children outside to play in green areas and develop their sporting skills unlike the routine life of visiting malls and shopping centres.
Thirty-eight parks have been renovated as part of Eid Al Adha  and are receiving thousands of families celebrating the Eid holidays, said Al Khouri
Meanwhile, Al Rayan Municipality has announced that it had completed construction and maintenance of 14 parks, mostly for families and children aged up to 12. Work is underway to complete four other new parks.
