Kuwait: Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) President and FIA Vice-president Nasser bin Khalifa Al Attiyah (pictured) will stand for re-election as the Vice-president of the FIM (Federation of International Motorcycling) for the second time.
The elections to the executive office of the FIM will be held in Jerez, Spain, from November 19-25.
In addition to the elections, the FIM’s annual general assembly meeting will also be held there. Incumbent FIM President Vito Ippolito will head the meeting. The union budget will be discussed as well as a number of the investment projects. The agenda of the meeting will include the release of many new championships in the Middle East region, Asia in general, Africa and Latin America, under the great boom of Motorbike sport all over the world.
Al Attiyah expressed his optimism about being re-elected. He won the last election in the October 2010 when he got 74 votes out of 94. The second Vice-president, Portuguese Vegas, will compete with Ippolito for the presidency this year — the FIM website stated.
Al Attiyah enters this election with a good background full of achievements in the last period, so it will be different from the last elections. He has managed to translate the plans and strategies into reality, such as establishing actual communications between the European and Asian unions and garnering support for the game across the Middle East by organising many championships — like the motocross in Qatar.
Also, good relations with the FIM President have helped develop the sport. All these factors indicate success for Al Attiyah’s bid for re-election.
Jerez, where the election will be held, is located in southwestern Spain, situated midway between the sea and the mountains. Since 1987, the Grand Prix motorcycle racing in Spain is celebrated in the circuit of Jerez in early May. Over the last few years, the city receives thousands of bikers from around the world.
