ISLAMABAD: The positive reaction of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on the appointment of new chief election commissioner (CEC) has encouraged pragmatic elements in the political circles and the government has gained confidence to go ahead on resolving other issues through dialogue.
PTI chief Imran Khan, who was opposed to the appointment of new CEC with the consultation of the prime minister and opposition leader blaming them for being hands in glove and termed any move done by them as ‘muk muka’ has uttered no adverse word.
PTI’s spokesperson Shireen Mazari though expressed regret over non-consultation of her party, she appreciated the selection of Sardar Raza who has an unblemished record.
The PTI and the government should shun blame game as to who deadlocked the talks and who should first move forward since it will be in the interest of the country that there is no threat to security and peace in the shape of shutdown of the cities and the country.
Political pundits including members of the political jirga have time and again put responsibility of reinitiating dialogue on the government as senior party to
the dispute. This means the atmosphere of extreme confrontation is easing and now there is an atmosphere of reconciliation which the government should realise and move quickly, but it is not ready to initiate dialogue immediately till December 6 when the prime minister is expected to return home from his four-day UK visit.
Both Ishaq Dar and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan have confirmed that the government was ready to resume dialogue with the PTI team on return of the prime minister. Meanwhile, informed sources have revealed that the prime minister is likely to hold a meeting with all the parliamentary leaders to discuss with them possible limits of talks and also to take them into confidence on the proposed talks.
