TRIPOLI: Tupras, Turkey's sole oil refiner, will definitely extend purchases of crude oil from Iran when the company's contract expires in August, despite U.S. sanctions against Tehran for its nuclear plans, Energy Minister Taner Yildiz said.
He also said Tupras would continue to purchase the same amount of Iranian crude until August that it has been buying since Dec. 3, when the United States kept in place exemptions for countries including Turkey.
New measures are expected this year.
From August, the amount of Iranian oil Turkey imports would be evaluated, but there are no plans to raise the amount, Yildiz told reporters late on Sunday during a trip to north Africa. (Reuters)
