DOHA: It will be a cold and windy day today with the mercury falling to between 15 and 17 degrees Celsius during the day, a weather bureau forecast said yesterday.
The night is likely to be colder with temperatures dipping to between 11 and 14 degrees C in places.
Al Wakrah, Mesaieed and Abu Samra, on the Saudi Arabia border, are likely to witness colder weather at night with the mercury dipping to 11 degrees C.
The day temperature in the above places is expected to be 16 degrees C.
In Doha, the daytime temperature has been forecast by the weather bureau at 17 degrees C, while the night would be slightly colder with the mercury sliding three notches down to 14 degrees C.
Cold northwesterly winds would likely blow at speeds ranging from 15 to 20 knots inland, and at times reach 25 to 30 knots.
However, by evening the wind could lose much of its sting with speeds coming down to eight to 12 knots at times, according to the weather bureau.
The sea could be rough due to strong northwesterly winds blowing at speeds varying from 18 to 30 knots. Waves could be as high as between six and 11 feet in the high seas.
A forecaster told this newspaper on the phone that there were no chances of scattered rains inland today, but it could rain offshore.
“I don’t think you can expect rains inland for the next two days,” said the forecaster. “Offshore, there are chances of rain today.”
On Friday and Saturday, there are strong chances of rains lashing the country again, he added.
About the overall weather, he said that since January is the coldest month of the year, one could expect lower mercury levels next week.
As for Wednesday, mercury levels could come down to 11 degrees C at night. The average daytime temperature is expected to be 20 degrees C.
