Cabinet welcomes UN fact-finding mission report on Israel settlements

Doha: The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs H E Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud chaired the Cabinet meeting yesterday.

The weekly session welcomed the conclusions of a UN fact-finding mission’s report on Israeli settlements which called on Tel Aviv to withdraw its settlers immediately from the West Bank and end its illegal settlement activities.    

The Cabinet said that the report’s inclusion of Israel’s crimes and illegitimate acts on Palestinian land was a step towards acknowledging the full rights of the Palestinian people, starting with the right to an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

It called upon Israel to comply with the resolutions of the UN mission and dismantle illegal settlements on the Arab land. 

The report also called on the UN Security Council to impose sanctions on Israel if it failed to comply with the resolutions.

The Cabinet approved a draft decree to amend the unified GCC customs tariff.

It endorsed a draft law on using DNA to combat crime. It states how authorities can obtain DNA and when to use it. The draft law will be referred to the Advisory Council.

The session also endorsed implementation of Article No. 5/6 of Law No. 24 of 2002 related to retirement and pensions of Qatari employees in Barwa Bank and its affiliated corporations. 

The Cabinet approved a draft memorandum of understanding on tourism cooperation with Egypt.  It also approved a draft agreement on economic and technological cooperation with Hungary and an agreement on cooperation in legal field with Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. 

A draft agreement on cooperation in cultural field with Saint Vincent and the Grenadines was also endorsed.

The session reviewed a report of a temporary technical committee on setting new safety procedures to limit accidents on construction sites and revising some of the related laws and took appropriate decision.
