Doha: Qatar University’s College of Law, in partnership with Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation, has announced the launch of the first issue for 2015 of its online law journal The International Review of Law.
It includes five articles by authors from law schools such as University College London (UK), Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (Switzerland), Xi’an Jiaotong University (China), and Bouira University (Algeria) and legal professionals from the UAE-based law firm Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP.
The articles in English and Arabic, with abstract translations, cover subjects and specialisations, including investment law, international humanitarian law, criminal law, conflict law and EU law, addressing legal issues raised in a conference on the Syrian crisis organised by the college in February 2014.
Dr Marina Lostal (Xi’an Jiaotong University) reflects on the issue of protecting Syria’s cultural heritage with individual criminal responsibility during the conflict, while Dr Tilman Rodenhauser of Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies explores international legal implications of armed opposition groups in Syria.
Prof Amar Rouabhi of Bouira University provides an evaluation of the crisis in the context of international humanitarian law.
Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi, Dean of the college, said: “The journal has proven to be the choice platform for publication of articles of legal significance. It has grown to become the leading and most respected law journal in the region due to its commitment to a stringent international and independent peer review process.”
Dr Jon Truby, Editor-in-Chief of the journal, said: “The journal has started off the year with thought-provoking articles that will invite meaningful discourse in legal and other circles.” The July issue of the journal is accepting articles until April 15.
