Indian Cultural Centre to stage cultural show to mark ‘Bharat Utsav 2019’ on April 12

DOHA: Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) in association with the Embassy of India and along with all ICC Associate Organisations, will stage a cultural show celebrating ‘Bharat Utsav 2019’ and ‘India Festival’ on April 12, 2019 at Sheraton Hotel Doha, by staging a colourful cultural fiesta.

The programme will be held as part of ‘Festival of India’ under the India-Qatar Year of Culture 2019, initiated by the Embassy of India with co-ordination and support of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and Qatar Museums (QM), the official partner for the 2019 Year of Culture. The musical evening will include performances by visiting artistes from India and the local talent from the Associate organisations of ICC.

Visiting Artistes from Kolkata include Kalamandalam Swarnadipa Mahanta, who has won  several awards; Classical dancer Subha Jena; and Sumanjit Chakraborty. The trio will perform ‘Nrityabithi Batayan’ which comprises three separate genre of Indian classical dance: Mohiniyattam from Kerala, Kuchipudi from the state of Andhra Pradesh and Odissi from Orissa.

Artists from Chennai will be led by Bismillah Khan awardee Uma Nambudripad Satya Narayanan, and includes Vidya Ravindran Anand and Jai Quehaeni Reddy. All three dancers are disciples of Padmashri Chitra Vishveshran and all are graded artists with Doordarshan and ICCR. They have extensively performed in India as well as on International arena. They will be performing ‘Nrityashrinkala’ a Bharatanatyam performance.

Local dances will include a range of Indian classical and folk dances for Thaipusam, spring festival, Magar Sankrathi, Holi, Baisakhi, Oppana, Ganesh Chathurthi, Onam, Dussera, Diwali and Karvachauth.

Ambassador of India to Qatar P Kumaran will be the Chief Guest for the evening. Eminent personalities from Qatar and other diplomatic missions are  also expected to grace the occasion. 

A commemorative souvenir will also be brought out to mark the celebration. Invitation is by free passes which will be distributed at ICC on first come first served basis at the end of this week.
