Doha, Qatar: Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokes person for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al-Ansari has said that Gulf coordination continues at various levels to deal with the potential repercussions of the crisis and to work jointly to prevent the return of escalation and enhance the security and stability of the region.

He said that Qatar continues its efforts to stop the escalation and restore the ceasefire. He emphasized the necessity of opening the Strait of Hormuz, ensuring freedom of navigation, and returning the parties to the negotiating table.

“The State of Qatar affirms that diplomacy and dialogue are the only way to overcome differences and conflicts, and continues to work to reach a diplomatic way out of the crisis.”

He stressed that a ceasefire, guaranteeing freedom of navi gation in the Strait of Hormuz, and a return to the negotiating table represent the only way forward. He added, “Our work right now is to get the ceasefire in place again, stop the escalation that is going on, and get the parties back into the negotiations. Whether it be to implement the MOU as it was agreed before, or to reach an agreement that would end this war altogether, the priority for us right now is to stop the escalation, open the Strait of Hormuz, and get us back on the negotiation table.”

He also confirmed that the invitation remains open to Iran to send a technical team to review all the details of the search and rescue operations related to its pilots, noting that Tehran but it did not respond.

“The State of Qatar was surprised by Iranian media state ments,” he said, describing them as “completely baseless” and containing illogical claims, stressing that Doha had taken all the required measures in accordance with its international and humanitarian obligations.

He further said that the Iranian aircraft that were dealt with had entered Qatari air space and targeted the city of Doha, and were dealt with according to the established rules of engagement after con firming that they had violated Qatari airspace.

“The contact was made with the pilots, but there was no response, which necessitated taking the necessary measures, while the search and rescue teams immediately began their tasks in accordance with the relevant international obligations.”

To another question about relations with Iran, Al-Ansari said that the State of Qatar has faced violations of its sovereignty and has protected its security and the security of residents on its territory, while emphasizing the importance of respecting the sovereignty of states and coexistence based on mutual respect.

Al-Ansari indicated that the current focus is on containing the present crisis and returning to the diplomatic track.

He pointed out that the current developments included the violation of the ceasefire and the developments in the Strait of Hormuz, which necessitate working to return to what was stipulated in the memorandum of understanding and resuming negotiations.

In this context, he affirmed the continuation of diplomatic efforts, expressing Qatar’s aspiration to reach an agreement between the Sultanate of Oman and Iran regarding the Strait, which would create the conditions for a return to negotiations.

To a question about Gaza peace plan, he said: “The State of Qatar stresses the importance of pushing towards implementing the second phase and accelerating the implementation of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza related to the plan of US President H E Donald Trump in light of the continued lack of commitment by the Israeli side to implement what was agreed upon.”
