Doha, Qatar: Qatar’s Civil Aviation Authority has issued its annual advisory as Al-Bawarih wind season begins across the gulf region.

These powerful northwesterly winds, which typically start in May and continue through July, are expected to bring reduced visibility as they carry fine dust in the air.

These winds are created by the extension of Indian monsoon low over the region along with the presence of a high pressure system over the Northern Arabian Peninsula.

The most important feature of Al-Bawarih wind is its gradual start of activity with sunrise until it reaches its peak during the afternoon.

Caution is advised for children and vulnerable people as high winds carry dust and other particles in the air.
