Saeed Al Sulaiti receiving winner's cheque of QR 100,000 from QMMF President Abdulrahman Al Mannai and LCSC Vice- President and General Manager Khalid Al Remaihi at Ritz Carlton yesterday.
Popular rider Saeed Al Sulaiti yesterday was honoured with the winner's trophy and a cheque of QR 100,000 for winning the Qatar Superstock 600 Championship at a glittering ceremony that marked the end of the motor sport season in the country.
The ceremony, organised by Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) and Losail Circuit Sports Club (LCSC), was held at the Ritz Carlton.
The trophies were presented by QMMF President Abdulrahman Al Mannai and LCSC Vice President and General Manager Khalid Al Remaihi.
QMMF President Al Mannai said: "It was a thrilling season for the riders and the drivers. We are very happy to see new Qatari faces in our championships and this was one of our goals. We tried to reduce the cost on our competitors and we are happy with the results.
"There are some areas where we can improve and we are going to work harder in the next season."
"With the concept of the QSTK championship, same bike for all the competitors brings more competition and we’ll try to unify the same for the cars," he added.
Al Sulaiti, who finished the bike season ahead of veteran rider and arch-rival Mashel Al Naimi and Nasser Al Malki, received his trophy from the QMMF President.
In-form driver Abdullah Al Khelaifi emerged as the runaway winner of the QTCC class, winning 10 out of 12 races. Al Khelaifi and Mansour Al Hajri received special recognition for promoting QTCC.
Shady El Mohandes was awarded as the 'Best Improved Driver' while Mahmoud Al Khalaf received two trophies - Rookie of the Year and for finishing third overall in the QTCC.
Meanwhile, Al Sulaiti was thrilled with his performances in the season.
"First of all, congratulations to everyone - competitors, riders and the marshals for their contribution in the running of this successful championship. Also, I want to thank my sponsors Ooredoo, the QMMF and LCSC for their support in this championship and my team which stand next to me to achieve this title," Al Sulaiti said.
"About my win, I am really happy as it is my first career championship victory. Of course it was not easy," Al Sulaiti said.
"I had great battles with other riders like Mashel and Nasser. We were able provide great entertainment. There were lots of solid races," he said.
Second-placed Al Naimi said: "Saeed was very strong from the middle of the season. I lost my top position from the 4th round when I crashed with Saeed and from this point onward, I couldn't regain my top spot."
"This is racing and these things happen but I am happy with my result and performance. Saeed deserve the championship title as he worked very hard," he added.
