DOHA: A Qatari philanthropist has donated through Doha-based charitable organisation, RAF, 10,000 tonnes of wheat flour for Syrian refugees, while Qatar Charity (QC) has raised QR20m within two hours of live broadcast via Aljazeera Mubasher (Direct) as part of their 10-day relief campaign for the refugees.

Called “Syria… Pain and Hope”, QC’s campaign had a live broadcast at 11pm on Monday and within two hours it collected QR20m, a large chunk of the fund was donated by Qatari philanthropists.

The campaign was also broadcast internationally in 25 television channels and radio stations. Held at Aljazeera Centre for Training and Development, the event saw the participation of a number of Islamic scholars and officials from Qatar Charity.

QC CEO Yousef bin Ahmed Al Kuwari stressed the importance of the international campaign set to help 10 million Syrian refugees and displaced Syrians.

Al Kuwari said QC took advantage of the last 10 days of Ramadan to urge philanthropists to donate for the Syrian refugees, who are suffering from lack of food, shelter, education, medicine and healthcare.

He thanked all the donors, the Islamic scholars, television channels and radio stations that participated in the campaign. This was the first time QC opened a campaign for donors outside Qatar.

The campaign will be used to fund new relief projects in Syria and implement established projects, meeting a variety of needs for Syrians inside and outside the country, including food, shelter, education, healthcare and education.

QC has already spent QR100m for relief of around 600,000 Syrians since the conflict broke out.

Around 60 percent of the projects have benefited people displaced within Syria, while the rest were directed to Syrian refugees in the neighbouring countries.

Donations outside Qatar can be made through the international account 003-111111-001, Al Rayan Bank, Qatar, Swift Code MAFRQAQAXXX.

Donations can also be made online through qcharity.org/syria which is available in Arabic, English and French. QR300 could also be donated through SMS by sending the word SYRIA via Ooredoo to 92060 or via Vodafone to 97289.

Donations can also be made at collecting points in commercial complexes and QC branches across Qatar, by calling the 24-hour hotline 44667711 or electronically.
