Doha, Qatar: The Department of Research and Islamic Studies at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs launched yesterday the fourth season of its distinguished cultural initiative, “Ummah Symposium”, held this year under the theme “Knowledge of Revelation.”
Director of the Department of Research and Islamic Studies Sheikh Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al Thani, stated that the opening session is titled “Knowledge of Revelation: The Foundational Framework for Human Knowledge.”
The discussion featured prominent scholars from Qatar University’s College of Sharia and Islamic Studies, including Professor Abdulsalam Muqbil Al-Majidi, Dr. Abdulhamid Majid Al-Sheesh, and Dr. Ramadan Khamis Zaki.
The session, hosted at Imam Muhammad bin Abdulwahhab Mosque after the evening prayer, explored three key themes: the epistemological and value-based dimensions of revelation, revelation as a methodological regulator for intellectual activity, and the framework of vision that leads to enlightened insight. Subsequent discussions will examine the role of the intellect within the context of revelation, exploring the interaction between divine knowledge and human reasoning as a foundation for scientific and civilisational creativity.
Sheikh Dr. Ahmed explained that this cultural season includes three additional symposia, addressing “Knowledge of Revelation as the Source of Intellectual Production in Islamic Civilization”, “Knowledge of Revelation as the Certain Source of Social Laws”, and “Knowledge of Revelation as the Pathway to Civilisational Inheritance.”
Each symposium will explore theoretical, methodological, and forward-looking perspectives aimed at renewing the role of revelation in shaping knowledge, guiding intellect, and preparing the modern Muslim to engage with the challenges of contemporary civilization.
The “Ummah Symposium” is a quarterly cultural and intellectual project organised by the Department of Research and Islamic Studies every three months. It brings together a distinguished group of scholars, thinkers, and experts to discuss key issues, challenges, and phenomena that are considered most pressing at the levels of the individual, society, and the wider Muslim Ummah.
The “Ummah Symposium” is a quarterly intellectual and cultural platform organized by the Ministry to foster dialogue among scholars and thinkers on issues of pressing concern to individuals and society.
Previous cultural seasons addressed themes such as “Cultural Institutions,” “Our Values – Pillars of Civilization,” and “Collective Duties – Path to Reform,” tackling subjects including family values, cultural moderation, and societal reform.
Through these successive seasons, the Ministry continues to affirm its commitment to nurturing intellectual renewal and reinforcing the centrality of revelation in shaping the nation’s cultural and civilisational identity.
