Cabinet hails Emir’s GCC tour

Doha: The Cabinet praised yesterday the tour of the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to GCC states Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman and the UAE on October 28-31 following a visit to Saudi Arabia on August 2.

The Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani chaired the weekly session at the Emiri Diwan.

Following the session, the Deputy Premier and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs H E Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud said: “Such a tour reflects the Emir’s keenness to enhance GCC cooperation and consultations on all issues of our region, our Arab nation and regional and international matters of joint interest.”

He said the tour also reflected deep-rooted fraternal relations between Qatar and the other GCC states and their  keenness to consolidate joint Gulf action in various fields for the benefit of their peoples.

The Cabinet approved a draft Emiri decision to establish and regulate a Police Academy.

The academy under the Interior Ministry will be set up to qualify officers in the scientific, legal and police fields. 

It will have a council headed by the Interior Minister, a general manager and one or more assistant manager assigned by the Minister. 

The academy will award bachelor’s degrees in law and police sciences to graduates.

The session also endorsed a draft law amending some provisions of Law No. 26 of 2005 on regulating tenders and auctions.

Under the amendments, the Cabinet may exclude certain entities from the purview of the law.

The Cabinet also approved a draft law amending GCC unified customs tariff.

A draft decision of the Minister of Environment on setting conditions for issuing a licence for digging groundwater wells; and a draft memorandum of understanding in the field of electricity and renewable energy between Qatar and Bangladesh were also approved.

The Cabinet then reviewed a letter from the Qatar Central Bank Governor and Chairman of Qatar Financial Markets Authority on the annual report of QFMA for the fiscal year 2012-2013; a draft agreement on cooperation between Qatar Tourism Authority and Qatar Airways; and a draft agreement on cooperation between QTA and Mowasalat and took the appropriate decisions.
