DOHA: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has opened a high utility-efficient mosque in Al Merad.
It has an adjacent facility for Eid prayer with a capacity to accommodate about 9,800 worshipers, including 8,500 men and 1,300 women.
The facility is equipped with most advanced systems to rationalise the use of water and power, Qatar News Agency reports.
It is part of the ministry’s plan to increase the numbers of mosques all over Qatar to accommodate the fast growing population due to influx of foreign workers for development projects.
The mosque can accommodate 366 worshipers — 300 men in main section and 66 women in a separate area. The facility includes homes for the Imam and the Muwazzin. Facilities like ablution areas and toilets are provided. The Peninsula
