Doha, Qatar: The Qatar Press Centre strongly condemns, in the harshest terms, the continued Iranian military aggression targeting the State of Qatar and the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council through the launch of ballistic missiles and drones.
These actions constitute a blatant violation of the sovereignty of states and a direct threat to their security and territorial integrity. They represent a highly dangerous escalation that threatens regional stability, undermines the foundations of regional peace, and places the safety and stability of peoples at serious risk.
The Centre also denounces the claims made by Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, that the attacks targeted only American interests inside Qatar. Field facts clearly confirm that the strikes affected civilian and residential areas within the country, including the vicinity of Hamad International Airport, in addition to vital infrastructure and industrial zones containing facilities for the production of liquefied natural gas. This constitutes a blatant violation of the sovereignty of Qatar and a grave breach of the well-established principles of international law.
The Centre noted that the attacks were not limited to missile launches, but also continued through drone assaults and aircraft that violated Qatari airspace.
These were confronted by the Qatar Armed Forces with efficiency and courage.
The Centre stressed that such practices reflect a dangerous escalation by the Iranian side and in no way demonstrate a genuine desire for de-escalation or for seeking solutions. Rather, they signal attempts to drag the region into a conflict that threatens its security and stability.
The Centre reaffirmed that this aggression represents a flagrant violation of international law and the principles of good neighbourliness. It is an act of aggression that cannot be justified under any pretext, given the serious threat it poses to the security and stability of states, the targeting of civilian and strategic facilities, the intimidation of populations, and the undermining of efforts aimed at strengthening regional security and building bridges of trust and understanding among nations.
Under these sensitive circumstances, the Centre stressed that responsible and professional media represent the first line of defence in times of crisis and a national shield in protecting the internal front and strengthening social cohesion.
The Centre called on press and media institutions to fulfil their national and professional responsibilities by strictly adhering to accuracy and objectivity, verifying information from official sources, firmly confronting attempts at misinformation and rumour-spreading, and refraining from being drawn into fabricated news or re-circulating it in ways that harm the public interest.
The Centre also emphasized the importance of guiding public awareness, promoting a culture of verifying information, and strengthening trust in credible sources. Such efforts contribute to protecting society from information warfare and enhancing social stability in the face of the challenges posed by aggression.
In this context, the Centre urged the public not to be misled by rumours or to circulate false news and disinformation campaigns on social media platforms, which aim to create confusion and destabilise society. It stressed that promoting such content may expose those responsible to legal accountability.
