DOHA: The new national curriculum for independent schools being developed by a team of experts will bring about a qualitative change in the educational scenario in Qatar, a meeting held by the Supreme Education Council (SEC) on Monday was told.
Minister of Education and Higher Education and the Secretary-General of the Supreme Education Council (SEC) HE Dr Mohamed Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi praised the general framework of the national curriculum and suggested developing an implementation plan to achieve its desired goals.
He said the curriculum framework should become a road map of the educational work in the future, and enhance the harmony of all the components of the educational system especially the agencies and institutions involved in education, evaluation and quality assurance.
The minister was speaking at a discussion panel held by the SEC to review the content of the general framework of the national curriculum for Qatar.
The minister also stressed the importance of having a steering committee as part of the implementation plan and of identifying the educational paths required for education, according to a scientific vision which based on achieving concrete results in the field of education.
The session was also attended by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Rabea Mohamed Al Kaabi, along with senior SEC officials and a number of experts, consultants, and educators.
At the outset of the discussion, Director of Education at SEC Fawziya Al Khater, made a presentation on the general framework of the national curriculum and its components, stages of preparation and expected results.
She said an expert team spent three years in preparing the general framework. Several members of the civic society, parents and school operators were also involved in the process.
She said implementation of the new curriculum will bring about a qualitative change in education, with competent teachers, an interactive learning environment and an effective evaluation and monitoring system.
