Aquino inks law for 28 new courts

MANILA: President Aquino has signed seven laws creating 28 new regional and metropolitan trial courts nationwide.

The new laws, signed on May 24, brought to 177 the total number of new court branches created this year.

Among those signed were Republic Act 10576, creating a new regional trial court (RTC) branch in Kidapawan, North Cotabato; RA 10577 for two branches in Ipil town, Zamboanga Sibugay; and RA 10578 for seven RTCs and two metropolitan trial courts (MTCs) in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.

The President also signed RA 10579 creating a new RTC branch in Talibon, Bohol; RA 10580 for five RTCs in Morong, Rizal; RA 10581 for four RTCs in Olongapo City, Zambales; and RA 10582 for six RTCs in Angeles City, Pampanga.         

Seven charged for killing of judge

BACOLOD CITY: The Department of Justice (DOJ) filed last Monday murder charges against seven suspects in last year’s killing of Kabankalan City judge Henry Arles, according to his lawyer-daughter.

Of the seven accused, six are members of the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade (RPA-ABB), while the seventh was an administrative aide of the Ilog municipal government, said lawyer Ma Estelita Arles, who now acts as the family’s lead counsel and spokesperson.

Charged with murder before the Kabankalan regional trial court were RPA-ABB members Jessie Daguia, Alejandro Capunong, Eddie Fortunado, Rustom Puro, Marvin Salve, and Gerald Tabujara, and Ilog municipal employee Emman Medes.

Convict in meth lab case surrenders

MANILA: A police official who was meted life imprisonment for protecting the operation of a methamphetamine hydrochloride laboratory busted in La Union in 2008 gave himself up to his superior in Cavite late Wednesday afternoon.

Superintendent Dionicio Borromeo, deputy director for administration of the Cavite police, is now in the custody of the Cavite police and will be turned over to the La Union court which convicted him.
