Total concluded two training sessions for its educational and institutional partners on ‘Petroleum Organic Geochemistry’ and ‘Reservoir and Production Geochemistry’.
The first session took place in Qatar Foundation, and was attended by many students from chemical and petroleum engineering backgrounds in Texas A&M University in Qatar (TAMUQ) and Qatar University. The second session took place in Total’s research centre, TRC-Q, and was attended by professional engineers from the oil and gas sector.
Daniel Dessort, a Total expert who was senior project leader for organic geochemistry in Total Research Centre-Qatar from 2012 to 2014, led the trainings in order to familiarize participants with organic geochemistry and its related analytical techniques.
The courses aimed to gear attendees with fundamental knowledge in geochemistry for applications in reservoir and production. A combination of illustrative and interactive tools were used to achieve this. At the end, professional participants were able to devise a strategy for adressing reservoir, well integrity and production allocation issues.
“One of the pillars of Total Research Centre Qatar (TRC-Q) is to carry out innovative research and share it with our partners. It is always a pleasure for us to organize high-level presentations to our industry partners and to the students.” said Philippe Julien, Director of TRCQ.
“We welcome such collaborations with universities to help bridge the energy industry with the academia. This will help build the confidence of students by furthering their knowledge in practical applications using oil and gas techniques”, added Yousef Al-Jaber, Head of CSR and institutional Relations. The Peninsula
