DOHA: More than 1,500 people will join the annual Ooredoo Marathon that will take place tomorrow.
This year’s marathon has seen a 25 percent increase in registrations, and Ooredoo is expecting a significant crowd of supporters to watch the range of races taking place on the day. Races will begin at 7am from the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) Park, and some roads leading to the Park will be closed to traffic from 6.30am.
The event features four courses in total, including a 10km run, half-marathon, full marathon and special children’s 1km fun run.
All funds raised by entry fees are being donated to support Reach Out To Asia’s efforts around the world.
Ooredoo is encouraging supporters to attend the event, and the range of food stalls and activities available will make for a fun-filled morning at the MIA Park. Marathon spectators are requested to gather at the walkway at the Park, which will serve as the starting line for the races. Alternatively, they can watch at one of the many checkpoints lining the route. The time to beat for last year’s competition is 01:10:46 for the men’s half marathon and 01:26:56 for the women’s event. This is the first year Ooredoo have supported a full marathon course, and strong competition is expected.
Prizes will be awarded to the best runners in various categories. The event is part of Ooredoo’s major health and fitness campaign to encourage more people to get involved in sports and enjoy a healthier lifestyle.
