LAHORE: Water and Power Minister Khawaja Asif has warned that no arrangements have been made to deal with the water shortage in Pakistan. The minister said that politics had always interfered with the construction of reservoirs.

Speaking at a ceremony held at a hotel here, Asif urged that national consensus was required to overcome the water, power and other shortages in the country.

The minister cited mismanagement in the past as the reason for the water and power shortages in Pakistan.

“There are no arrangements to deal with the water crisis which will emerge in a few years,” Asif said. He further said that the water crisis was a global issue.

Khawaja Asif added that the power shortage would be controlled in three years but the water shortrage is a long-term issue and could not be resolved in a few years.

According to the minister the country experienced floods every year but there are no reservoirs to store the water.
