DOHA: Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) plans to introduce a summer festival this year, along with its Eid festival.
The festivities, due to begin in the next few weeks, will consist of almost two-and-a-half months celebrations and events, spanning across the summer, and Eid Al Adha and Eid Al Fitr.
Over this period, Qatar will host one of the largest cultural, artistic and entertainment programmes in the Gulf.
As the number of tourists and residents increases in Qatar, QTA is working to position Qatar as a family-friendly destination where there’s something suitable for all ages and interests. The festivals this year will highlight QTA’s efforts to provide visitors with family-oriented recreation, entertainment and cultural experiences.
To develop activities, QTA is partnering with tourist and cultural organisations, shopping centres and entertainment facilities.
Tourists are expected from the region and other parts of the world, considering the 26 percent increase in international newcomers in the first quarter of this year. Regional and international visitors totalled over 380,000 in the quarter, representing a 9 percent year-on-year increase.
In the past, Qatar’s summer festivals have featured local and international shows, music and circus performances, parades, fireworks and other events. The Peninsula
