DOHA: Qatar Airways honoured 35 graduates of the Qatar Aeronautical College (QAC) during their graduation ceremony on Sunday at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Doha.

The group, comprising 14 aircraft maintenance engineers and 21 cadet pilots, will now embark on a full-time career with the national airline, having completed their studies under Qatar Airways’ Nationalisation Department.

Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker presided over the graduation ceremony, attended by government officials including the Undersecretary from the Ministry of Labour Hussain Yousif Al Mulla; Director of Government Budget from the Ministry of Finance Sheikh Soud Bin Nasser Al Thani; Director General of QAC Ali Al Malki and the Director of Higher Education from the Supreme Education Council Dr Khalid Issa Al Hurr.

“This reflects our commitment to attract, develop, and more importantly, retain our highly qualified Qatari nationals,” said Al Baker. “Tonight’s graduation ceremony is part of our long-term drive to support young talented Qataris in their education to develop the right set of skills required by our rapidly growing business.”

The company’s National Scholarship Programme is a key driver of the airline’s ambitious plans to adopt the Qatar 2030 vision. The graduates are the latest success story in Qatar Airways’ pursuit to fulfil the Qatar 2030 vision to create a sustainable future for Qatar by investing in local Qatari talent and building a strong local workforce.

Al Baker said that the airline is not only hiring Qataris to work, but is also helping them build their career paths in the aviation industry. Qatar Airways has a number of programmes to support Qatari high school graduates in their education, to develop their skills and guide them toward key leadership roles within the airline.

“Qatar Airways is a demanding and competitive airline setting high standards for our employees,” continued Al Baker. “I am delighted to say our staff feel proud to be part of an organisation that has earned tremendous amount of praise, appreciation and recognition. Qatar Airways VP Nationalisation Dr Kholode Al Obaidly said:

“This graduation ceremony heralds the beginning of a world of new opportunities for some of Qatar’s leading talent.

“We are here in celebration of their educational achievement and wish them well as they are about to begin representing one of the world’s leading airlines – Qatar Airways,” added Al Obaidly.
