DOHA: The fasting month of Ramadan begins tomorrow, the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs announced yesterday. “July 10 will be the first day of Ramadan for the Islamic calendar year –Hijri—1434,” the ministry said, according to Qatar News Agency (QNA).
The head of Qatar’s new moon sighting committee, Thaqil bin Saer Al Shummari, said the new moon was not sighted yesterday “so the Hijri month of Shaban will be of 30 days and Ramadan (the Hijri month that follows Shaban) will begin from Wednesday”.
The Ministry of Interior, meanwhile, announced Ramadan timings for some of its key departments and said some of them will work in two shifts — morning and evening.
The immigration and traffic departments will be open from 9am to 2pm, and from 8pm until 1am. These timings will also apply to the Nationality and Travel Documents Department.
The traffic investigation department will, however, remain open round-the-clock. The finger printing section at the External Services Centers will also work in two shifts, from 9am to 2pm and 8pm to 1am.
The finger printing section at the Industrial Area will, though, work in a single shift, from 9am to 6pm.
The Criminal Evidences and Information Department’s head office will be open from 9am to 2pm during the holy month.
