PHILADELPHIA: The Utah Jazz finally found a way to win on their six-game road trip: Play a team that can’t win anywhere.
Gordon Hayward scored 22 points, Alec Burks added 19 and the Jazz beat Philadelphia 104-92 on Saturday night, sending the reeling 76ers to their 16th consecutive loss. ‘’It’s a win, man,’’ Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin said. ‘’The young guys got a chance to finish a game that was close.’’
Derrick Favors contributed 15 points and 14 rebounds, Enes Kanter had 13 points and 10 boards, and Diante Garrett scored 11 points for the Jazz (22-41), who snapped a five-game losing streak and completed a six-game road trip at 1-5.
Tony Wroten scored a career-high 30 points for the Sixers (15-47), who hadn’t dropped 16 in a row since a franchise-worst 20 straight losses during the 1972-73 season, when they finished 9-73. The Sixers also lost their franchise-worst 13th straight home game.
The Jazz built an 84-73 lead following a 7-0 run early in the fourth quarter. But the Sixers wouldn’t wilt and rallied to tie the game at 91 on a layup by Wroten with 2:52 remaining.
Burks responded with a 3-pointer to put Utah back ahead 16 seconds later. Tony Parker scored 30 points as the San Antonio Spurs battled to beat the lowly Orlando Magic at home.
Two nights after a dazzling performance that crushed the Miami Heat, the Spurs struggled against the Magic, but ultimately did enough to win their sixth successive game.
Parker, in his fourth game back after being out with various aliments, made 11 of 19 shots from the field as San Antonio (46-16) moved into a tie with the Oklahoma City Thunder for the best record in the Western Conference.
Carmelo Anthony had 26 points and seven rebounds as the New York Knicks won on the road over the Cleveland Cavaliers, who lost their fourth consecutive game.
The Knicks (24-40) moved into a tie with the Cavs for 10th in the Eastern Conference playoff race.
Guard Bradley Beal scored 12 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter as the Washington Wizards beat the Milwaukee Bucks on the road.
Washington led by as many as 28 points after shooting a blistering 67 percent from the field in the first half but still had to hold on down the stretch as the Bucks closed to within three points in the final minutes.
Forward Blake Griffin scored 27 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and the Los Angeles Clippers held on for the narrowest of wins over the Atlanta Hawks. The Clippers (44-20) captured their seventh consecutive win, their longest streak of the season, while Atlanta (26-35) lost its sixth straight and the 14th in the past 15 games.
