Doha: Qatar’s telecoms sector regulator has called on the parties concerned to submit their feedback on the draft national broadband plan, which seeks to meet the growing demand for high-speed Internet services in the country.
The Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (ictQatar) has asked the concerned parties to submit their views and comments on the consultation document on Qatar National Broadband Plan (QNBP) no later than May 29, the regulator said in a statement yesterday.
The draft plan includes a general framework and executive steps Qatar needs to take in the coming ten years to benefit from fibre-optic networks. The statement said the Council will receive the views and comments of the concerned parties on the draft plan via policyict.gov.qa.
The plan, which reiterates Qatar’s commitment to becoming a leading digital economy, is a part of ictQatar’s efforts to meet the growing need for broadband services in the light of ambitious development programmes taking place here, which require access to high-speed Internet in order to support the digital economy.
The national plan also aims to support and promote investment in telecommunications and information technology, which is why policies and programmes on providing high-quality and high-speed Internet services at reasonable prices will be reviewed. In addition, efforts to create an integrated system of public policy, and regulatory and legislative procedures to support and stimulate investment, increase innovation and promote economic diversification will be assessed.
QNBP is in line with Qatar’s National ICT Plan 2015 and Qatar National Vision 2030. THE PENINSULA
