NEW DELHI: A Delhi court yesterday sentenced to life imprisonment three convicts in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case in which Congress leader Sajjan Kumar has been acquitted, despite the prosecution seeking the death penalty. The victim’s kin called the punishment inadequate.

New ports in West Bengal, AP
New Delhi: The union cabinet yesterday approved the shipping ministry’s proposal to set up major new ports in West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs decided to set up a major port at Sagar Island in West Bengal through the Public Private Partnership route, and another new port at Dugarajapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. The Kolkata and Haldia ports are riverine ports which face severe draught limitations because of adverse morphological changes in Hooghly River which cause siltation. The deep draught port at Sagar Island would obviate the need for heavy maintenance dredging and would be able to handle large-sized vessels.
