ISLAMABAD: The counsel for Pakistan’s former president Pervez Musharraf contended before the Supreme Court yesterday that his client had decided not to argue further in the high treason case in the apex court.

However, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja, while heading the three-member bench, observed that the court did not intend to put on trial the former president but the court could not allow anyone to abrogate the Constitution.

During the proceedings, the SC bench sought a written explanation from former president Pervez Musharraf to clear who was leading his case in the apex court.

The apex court sought a written explanation when Ibrahim Satti and Ahmed Raza Kasuri advocates appeared before the bench as counsels for former president Pervez Musharraf when the identical petitions seeking trial of former president were taken up by the bench.

Ibrahim Satti informed the court that he held a detailed meeting with his client and after a brief discussion about the case, Mushrraf decided not to go for further arguments in the case.

However, Ahmed Raza Kasuri, who was also representing Mushrraf in the case, categorically denied the statement of Ibrahim Satti and said that he did not receive any such instruction from his client.

He further submitted that Satti was not a leading counsel of the former president in the case.

Ibrahim Satti, submitting written arguments in the court, stated that his client?s request to set up a larger bench for the hearing of the case was turned down.
