Qatar Charity to provide iftar to 174,000 people

DOHA: Ten tents have been set up in various locations in the country for Qatar Charity’s QR5m Iftar Project to provide iftar meals to 174,000 people throughout the holy month of Ramadan. 

The iftar tents are located in Al Rayyan, Al Shaniyyah, Al Wakra and Al Khor. The said areas were chosen based on high population of low-income workers. Besides these tents, Qatar Charity will also use areas within some schools.

Qatar Charity will provide the iftar meals in collaboration with restaurants and some families that have been registered with it.

Ibrahim Al Mohannadi, Qatar Charity’s executive director for local development, said Qatar Charity is keen to cover different parts of the country taking into consideration those areas where low-income workers live.

In addition to this, Qatar Charity has Iftar programme for various expatriate communities, with a budget of QR200,000. 

Qatar Charity is also providing low-income families iftar meals for the whole month to be prepared by Productive Families who signed contract with the organisation. 

The aim of this project is to support low-income families and to create income-generating project for fiveProductive Families and each family prepare iftar meals for 10 low-income families with a cost of QR320,000.

Another Qatar Charity project is the “Ramadan Supplies” worth QR400,000; in which packs which contain basic needs for Ramadan will be distributed to 1,000 low-income families in residential areas as a gift.

Al Mohjannadi added that Qatar Charity has mobile iftar project which distributes iftar meals to 9,000 drivers on the streets at a cost of QR365,000.

Another project is “Zakat Al Fitr” which would benefit 1,000 families, mainly widows and orphans ,at a cost of QR555,000.

The Peninsula
