DOHA: The Supreme Education Council (SEC) has warned Independent schools of stern action if they fail to promptly fill their vacancies for teachers.
Ibrahim Rajab Al Kuwari, Director, Human Resources Department, SEC, said yesterday that failure by schools to appoint adequate number of qualified teachers will have a negative impact on the quality of education.
For the new academic year, the SEC has recruited 280 teachers from Qatar and several Arab countries who are ready to join a number of Independent schools, Al Kuwari said in a statement.
The teachers have been brought in from countries, including Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco and Palestine.
An SEC team visited these countries recently to conduct interviews.
The SEC had earlier advertised vacancies through newspapers in Qatar and the Arab countries, said Al Kuwari.
The teachers were selected based on strict criteria set by the SEC’s Education Institute to ensure that they are adequately qualified for their job. Most of them will be teaching science subjects, he added.
Al Kuwari said the SEC will be closely monitoring vacancies in Independent schools since some of the selected teachers may not join.
He added that the SEC is keen to appoint teachers from graduates of College of Education at Qatar University. The Peninsula
