DOHA: Doha College’s West Bay Campus was recently officially inaugurated by the British Ambassador, Nicholas Hopton.
Located on Al Farouq Street, the campus is a purpose-built school which offers a British-led curriculum to primary school children aged three years to 11 .
The college also offers a primary and secondary campus at Al Waab and plans an additional new campus in Abu Hamour to accommodate the growing need for school places in Qatar.
Hopton said, “It’s great to be here to mark the opening of the West Bay Campus of Doha College.
“This is an exciting development for Doha College and for the wider UK-Qatar relationship, especially as we celebrate the Qatar-UK Year of Culture in 2013. I am very pleased that we are continuing to strengthen our education partnership with the Supreme Education Council (SEC), and contributing to Qatar’s National Vision 2030. This new campus will help meet the education needs of the growing British community in Qatar as well as the wider community.”
The Principal of Doha College, Mark Leppard, explained, ”Doha College is delighted to be invited by SEC to open this campus in West Bay.
“Although we have multiple campuses we operate as one school, each campus embraces the same standards, delivers the same curriculum and shares the same values.
“Now we have West Bay Campus established, we must turn our attention to raising money to build our new campus.”
At the West Bay Campus, 450 primary school children started their education and met their new headmistress Christine Walker.
Established in 1980, Doha College operates under the sponsorship of the British Embassy on a not-for-profit basis and the new West Bay Campus operates under the same philosophy.
