DOHA: More than 200 security personnel will be deployed across the Corniche, with the Ministry of Interior beefing up security arrangements for National Day celebrations, a senior official has said.
The Corniche will be closed for vehicular traffic in the morning for the National Day parade on December 18 and the police will keep a strict vigil on all vehicles entering the area in the evening to ensure that they abide by the new safety guidelines.
The authorities have banned covering vehicles with flags, stickers and banners in a way that prevents visibility and endangers the lives of motorists as well as pedestrians. Restrictions have also been imposed on tinting the glasses.
Those engaging in daredevilry on the roads during the National Day celebrations will also face action, a local Arabic daily reported yesterday, quoting Brig Ali Salman Al Mohannadi, head of the Security Committee for the National Day.
All the vehicles coming from neighbouring countries to join the celebrations are also required to comply with the new regulations. The Traffic Department has notified the Customs Department to ensure that the rules are strictly followed. The Peninsula
