DOHA: The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) has launched the fourth edition of Martyr Ali Hassan Al Jaber Award in memory of the Aljazeera cameraman killed in Libya in March 2011.
Announcing the launch, NHRC General Secretary, Mariam Abdullah Al Attiyah, said the prize has been increased from $15,000 to $20,000 to be distributed to the winners in the three categories of the award.
The categories include award for photographs which carries $5,000, investigative journalism ($5,000) and short documentary film ($10,000).
Al Attiyah said the award aims to promote humanitarian values for which Al Jaber died, adding the subject of the entries should be of humanitarian nature, not political.
Participants should comply with technical conditions such as entries should not have been submitted by their owners in similar competitions or should not have won previous awards.
Photos should be of high resolution while investigative reports should highlight the issue, include opinions and solutions. Documentary films must not be more than 10 minutes and in full HD 16:9 format.
The nominated works would not be returned to the owners and would be kept in the archive of NHRC.

The award was launched in 2011 with a $10,000 prize which went to Palestinian photographer Mohammad Othman who was hit in the spine by Israeli sniper fire as he covered a protest rally in Gaza.
It left Othman in complete paralysis.
The prize was increased to $15,000 in the second and third editions of the award.
