DOHA: The Health Monitoring Section at Al Khor-Al Dakhira Municipality has permanently shut down a supermarket operating without permit in Umm Barkah area.

The municipality had received information about the supermarket and about an Asian resident selling liquor near it.

Civic inspectors, in collaboration with Lekhwiya and Al Shamal Security Department, raided the place and seized liquor.

They also found several food-related violations by the supermarket, including the absence of health certificates for workers, and non-compliance with GCC specifications related to food labels.

Some food items were without labels indicating the expiry date and place of manufacturing and some were not displayed with space of over 30cm from the ground. The director of the municipality issued a decision, permanently closing down the supermarket and referred the case to authorities to complete legal procedures.

The municipality will continue inspection visits during Eid days, especially in places which witness a large number of visitors such as restaurants, commercial complexes, and fruits, vegetables and fish markets.

The section is also taking into account people’s complaints about outlets not complying with health specifications.

The municipality has urged people to have their animals slaughtered at abattoirs as it is safer than doing it at homes because abattoirs are kept clean  and have veterinary doctors to check the meat.
