Geneva: The State of Qatar affirmed that the right to development is a fundamental human right, crowned by the adoption of the Declaration on the Right to Development in 1986, noting that forty years after the adoption of this Declaration, the principles and standards contained therein continue to form the cornerstone for addressing many of the challenges facing the world today.
This was stated in the statement of the State of Qatar, delivered by Mr. Abdulrahman Mohammed Fakhro, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva, today, during his participation in the discussion session on the right to development, held on the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration on the Right to Development, item 3, as part of the sixty-third session of the Human Rights Council held in Geneva.
He affirmed that within the framework of implementing the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, attention to this right is considered an international and national priority, taking into account the importance of implementing the development agenda in accordance with the texts of the Declaration and the obligations of states contained in international human rights treaties.
He clarified that the State of Qatar has adopted, in this regard, a promising national vision for comprehensive development, which is the "Qatar National Vision 2030," and has worked on implementing it through national development strategies, thereby achieving many significant national accomplishments and taking steady steps to implement the Sustainable Development Goals.
He also noted that Qatar has maintained its leading position in numerous international and regional indicators related to development. He pointed out that, at the international level, the State of Qatar has adopted a foreign policy based on enhancing and promoting international cooperation and solidarity in order to contribute to development efforts in various fields. In this context, he highlighted Qatar's hosting of the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries in March 2023, and the Second Global Summit on Social Development in November 2025.
The Deputy Permanent Representative of the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva also noted that Qatar's efforts continue in interactive solidarity, represented by providing support to countries affected by disasters, conflicts, and climate changes, as well as its efforts in preventive solidarity, represented by investing in the provision of quality education and implementing a number of developmental programs and initiatives with many international partners.
