DOHA: The Consumer Protection Department (CPD) at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce ordered to take 34 different types of substandard products off the shelves last year.
At least 1,272 samples of various products were taken for laboratory tests in 2013, said a report issued by the General Secretariat of the State Cabinet.
The inspectors of the department made 77,859 visits to the commercial centers and launched 3,126 inspection drives in the local market. The Department took action against 1,511 outlets for violating the consumer protection law. It received 3717 complaints via hotline, e-mails, and SMS and the necessary actions were taken, Al Sharq reported.
The licensing and monitoring department issued 1,298 licences to the outlets to offer promotions and discounts. It granted 260 permissions to conduct lucky draws. At least 80 brokers were issued licences to practice their business.
More than 150,000 flyers, handbooks and broachers were distributed to the consumers to educate them about consumer rights.
DOHA: The Traffic Department at Ministry of Interior has closed 12 shops selling car accessories for violating rules in 2013.
The shops have been closed for different violations found during search operations, however the number of such incidents have reduced from 2012, says Major Saif Saad Al Mohanadi at Monitoring and Inspection Section at the Traffic Department, reported an Arabic daily yesterday.
According to Major Al Mohanadi violations include printing ‘immoral stickers,’ contact details of individuals on vehicles, exceeding the intensity of tint on glasses fitted on vehicles.
