Doha, Qatar: Ambassador of Australia to Qatar H E Shane Flanagan underscored the strength of bilateral relations between the two nations during a keynote address, praising the vital contributions of engineers to infrastructure development, innovation, and technological progress.

He lauded the Engineers Australia Qatar Chapter (EAQC) for its role in advancing professional growth, fostering collaboration, and promoting knowledge exchange within Qatar’s dynamic engineering community. Under the leadership of Chapter President Abdul Zameer Sab, Engineers Australia Qatar Chapter hosted its 10th Annual Gala Dinner recently, at the Al Majlis Ballroom, Sheraton Doha.

The milestone event brought together approximately 200 distinguished guests, including Ashghal, ECG, Barzan University, GHD, PICE, engineering bodies in Qatar, industry leaders, engineering professionals, partners, and members of the wider community, to celebrate a year of achievements and ongoing contributions to the engineering sector in Qatar.

The evening commenced with a warm welcome address by Mohammed Ayaz Ali, who greeted the distinguished guests and formally introduced the Master of Ceremonies.

The event was then gracefully hosted by Hana Zayed, who guided the programme with professionalism and poise. The ceremony began with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an by ShafiMon, followed by the national anthems of the State of Qatar and Australia, symbolising the strong and enduring ties between the two nations.

Attendees were honoured with a special video address from Romilly Madew, CEO of Engineers Australia, who conveyed her appreciation for the Chapter’s continued efforts in advancing the engineering profession and strengthening engagement within the region.

In his Presidential Address, Abdul Zameer Sab highlighted the Chapter’s key milestones and accomplishments over the past year and shared a forward-looking vision focused on innovation and sustainable engineering practices. He introduced the 2026 EAQC committee led by him, Ravinder Singh (Deputy), Heba Mandour (Secretary), Mohamed Ayaz (Treasurer) and committee members Hosam Magdy, Parveen Kumar, Moen Azmi, Ahmed Ismail, Wahid Geer & Maureen Nso.

The Deputy President, Ravinder Sason, presented an overview of the Chapter’s activities and initiatives throughout 2025. The programme featured three insightful keynote presentations from industry leaders: Bassam Halabi of GHD, Abdelhameed Mohamed of ECG, and Moen Azmi of AEB. The evening also included a presentation by Dr. Lofti Belkhair, Dean of Barzan University College, who shared updates on academic progress.

The celebration then followed by presentation of Fellowship and Chartered recognitions to deserving members.

Sponsors (ECG and BUC) and volunteers were acknowledged for their invaluable support, and chief guest and speakers were presented with commemorative mementoes.
