Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Interior on Thursday reminded motorists to follow safety guidelines when driving in fog, as the Qatar Meteorology Department forecasts poor horizontal visibility in parts of the country this weekend in its last weather report.
In a social media post, the ministry urged drivers to exercise caution and adjust their driving behaviour to suit low-visibility conditions.
The MoI shared a set of practical tips to reduce risks on the road during foggy weather.
Drivers are advised not to use emergency hazard lights or high beams while driving in fog, and instead rely on fog lights and low beams to avoid glare and improve visibility.
Motorists are also encouraged to remain in their lane and avoid overtaking or frequent lane changes, which can increase the likelihood of collisions when visibility is limited.
Staying alert and listening for potential hazards ahead is another key recommendation.
The ministry further advised drivers to use vehicle defrosters and windshield wipers to keep windows clear and maximise visibility.
Reducing speed and driving according to road and weather conditions is essential, as fog can make distances and speeds harder to judge.
Maintaining a greater following distance between vehicles is also stressed, allowing more time to react to sudden stops or obstacles.
The latest reminder comes as part of ongoing awareness efforts to enhance road safety and reduce weather-related accidents across Qatar.
