DOHA:  Academic Bridge Programme of Qatar Foundation celebrated graduation of 177 students at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) yesterday.

The class of 2013 brings the total number of Academic Bridge Program (ABP) graduates since 2001 to over 2,500. More than 80 percent of the graduating class of 2013 is Qatari and the remaining 20 percent come from 17 different nationalities.

More than half the class  (64 percent) are girls and 34 percent boys. The Academic Bridge Programme expects that 30 percent of this year’s graduating class will enter one of Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) partner universities in August. By this, around 90 percent of ABP graduates will have gained admissions to an university, either here in Qatar or abroad, mostly the US or the UK.

Some more interesting facts about the class of 2013 is that 40 students graduated with Honours (their ABP scores are all A & B grades) and two graduated with High Honors (All A grades). Two students have achieved perfect attendance for the whole second semester.

Dr  Miles Lovelace, Director of ABP gave his comments on the class of 2013. This was followed by opening remarks from the President of the Student Association, Aisha Al Muhannadi, who was the first women ABP Student Association President in the history of the ABP. The keynote speech was given by   Khalid Aboujassoum, an ABP graduate of 2003, who currently  is a Bachelor of Science in Applied Science in Computer Engineering, Engineering Management and Entrepreneurship, University of Ottawa, Canada, and who was the first prize winner of the 2012 Stars of Science Contest.

This year’s Valedictorian was Hamza Alony Hamed.
