Doha, Qatar: The Government Communication Office (GCO) issued a set of guidelines outlining the protocol for flying the State of Qatar’s flag at half-mast during periods of mourning.

This comes in accordance with the provisions of Law No 14 of 2012, ensuring adherence to approved procedures and preserving the flag's status and national symbolism.

The flag is lowered to half-mast as follows:

Raising the Flag
The flag is first raised to the top of the flagpole.

Half-Mast Position
The flag is lowered to the middle of the flagpole, so that the centre of the flag is at the midpoint of the flagpole.

Mourning Period
The flag remains at half-mast throughout the announced mourning period.

End of the Mourning Period
When the flag is taken down, it is first raised to the top of the flagpole, then lowered in the usual manner.

The office said it is important to ensure the flag is in good condition and handled in a manner befitting its status, preserving its dignity and symbolism.

It further added that the flag must not touch the ground while being raised, lowered to half-mast, or taken down.
