Udine, Italy: Paris Saint-Germain will look to kick off their new campaign by adding another trophy to their collection as they face Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Super Cup today in the Italian city of Udine.

Fresh off a historic season in which they claimed four major titles - Ligue 1, Coupe de France, the French Super Cup, and their maiden UEFA Champions League crown - PSG now aim to start the 2025-26 season with a fifth piece of silverware under coach Luis Enrique.

Their opponents, Tottenham Hotspur, winners of last season’s UEFA Europa League, are led by new Danish coach Thomas Frank. Spurs had a solid preseason, remaining unbeaten in five matches before falling 0-4 to Bayern Munich in their final warm-up game.

PSG, who reached the FIFA Club World Cup final in the United States this summer (losing 0-3 to Chelsea), had little time for friendlies in preseason. They will begin their domestic campaign this weekend away to Nantes.

Notably, PSG have left star goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma out of their squad amid reports linking him with a summer exit. Lucas Chevalier, newly signed from Lille and last season’s Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Year, is expected to start, with Matvey Safonov and youth talent Renato Marin also in the squad.

Frank confident Spurs will be ‘incredibly competitive’

Frank said yesterday he is expecting his team to be “incredibly competitive” in his first game in charge against PSG.

The former Brentford boss could not have been given a tougher opening match in the Spurs dug-out, facing a PSG side who romped to their maiden Champions League title with a 5-0 thumping of Inter Milan in May.

“I am convinced we will be incredibly competitive tomorrow,” Frank told reporters ahead of Wednesday’s game in Udine.

“Paris are, of course, further down the line in terms of their peak performance, but we are ready for the match...

“For everyone involved in Tottenham it’s a massive game, a big challenge and a great opportunity. We will definitely embrace it and give everything. We are playing an ok team, but we are ready for it.”

Tottenham ended a 17-year wait for a major trophy with victory over Manchester United in last season’s Europa League final.

Spurs have signed Mohammed Kudus from West Ham to bolster their attacking options and he could be in line to make his debut against PSG.

Eberechi Eze has been heavily linked with a possible move across London from Crystal Palace, but Frank declined to comment on the club’s reported interest in the England winger.
