Call for new initiatives to solve traffic jams

DOHA: New plans introduced in the city have not been able to manage the daily increasing traffic problems and there is a need for new affective initiatives, reveals a weekly survey by Al Sharq. 

The newspaper asked three different questions from readers about their view on new traffic plans and their effectiveness. 

Nearly 73 percent of respondents to the survey said that they believe efforts been taken by concerned authorities to solve traffic jams is not efficient, while only 27 percent of the respondents says its effective. 

While 60 percent respondents said the new projects under construction will not contribute in solving the heavy traffic jam caused in the city and only 40 percent agreed that the new projects will help solving the problem.  Contribute in solving the traffic jam 40 percent believe it will contribute 60 believe will not be helpful in solving the current traffic problems 

While, 93 percent of respondents say that there is a need to introduce new traffic plan and seven percent   refrained from expressing their view. 

Expressing their views many respondents to the survey has also revealed that traffic jam is a time related problem as it increases during the peak hours. And very common on some roads especially close to commercial places and some congested roads.      

Nasser Al Hamad a Qatari youth said, “This is big problem everyone is facing, solving this problem needs some serious solution. Some roads are lacking traffic signals, some others have many, and this should be sorted.” 

He also explained that there should be some method to reduce the number of cars and control the number of drivers’ license issued every year.  

Reduce cars and restriction on driving license test more difficult. Country should have a limited number limited. He says the country is not ready to accept the increasing population.  

Sultan Mohamed columnist said, “Some people take the cars even to go to a near by place. Doha should get more bridges and tunnels, than traffic signals and roundabout.” 

Mubarak Frish a CMC member is in the opinion that the metro transport should be introduced and some roads should be made available only for one way traffic during peak hours.
