KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian oil company "Petronas" registered a higher pre-tax profit of RM25.88 billion or about $8 billion in the third quarter ended September 30, 2013 from RM21.27 billion chalked up in the same quarter in 2012.

Revenue increased to RM81.41 billion or about $25 billion, during the period under review, from RM68.34 billion recorded previously driven by higher crude oil, processed gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) sales volume, as well as, higher petroleum products trading volume.

"The better performance was also attributed to stronger customer demand and increased trading opportunities coupled with the impact of the strengthening US dollar against the ringgit," "Bernama" news agency quoted Petronas President and Chief Executive Officer Datuk Shamsul Azhar Abbas as saying.

"The increase in revenue was due to higher crude oil and processed gas trading activities, higher crude oil, processed gas and LNG sales volume," he said.  (QNA)
