Paris: The Arab Group at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) issued a statement during its regular ambassadorial level meeting which was held yesterday, congratulating Qatar on hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
At the same time, it commended the developments and work exerted by the Qatari government for the successful hosting of this tournament, taking into account the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The group stressed that, hosting of the most prominent sporting event in Qatar, is a gain for each of the countries in the region in various sports and cultural aspects.
The Arab Group draw the attention to the importance of the role of organising the World Cup in the Arab region for its positive impact on the region in the Unesco’s competence fields, especially in promoting the goals of development and youth.
The group also expressed its condemnation of the misleading media statements and systematic campaigns targeting Qatar, stressing its support to Qatar in its efforts to confront these campaigns.
Furthermore, the Arab Group praised in its statement, the role of the Qatar in the preparation for the World Cup, which will achieve the goal of delivering a clear and positive message about the State of Qatar and the Arab countries in countering the malicious disinformation campaigns.
The Group explained that the hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, is considered a historic merit for the Arab region, as this historic event has never been hosted in the region before.
