DOHA: The Prime Minister of Ireland, Enda Kenny, met Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, Chairman of Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB) during his visit to Qatar and discussed collaboration and mutual opportunities in Qatar and Ireland.
It was the only meeting Kenny had with any of the country’s banking institutions.
The meeting was described as ‘very fruitful’.
They also discussed capital markets and the development of Islamic financial products in Ireland and agreed on follow-up meetings in the near future.
QIB plans to support Qatari companies which wish to invest in Ireland as an attractive and tax-efficient alternative compared to some other EU countries.
It will also offer support to Irish companies in Qatar or planning to set up subsidiaries.
Sheikh Jassim praised Kenny’s visit and fruitful discussions and said he looked forward to future mutual benefit and cooperation.
The meeting was also attended by senior members of the delegation and QIB’s senior management team.
With its rapid development, Qatar has become a growing investment and business destination for Irish firms, especially in the construction and services industries. The delegation is considering financing opportunities and attracting Foreign Direct Investments from Qatar.
