LAHORE: Pakistanis set six records and made it to the Guinness World Records yesterday.
According to a Punjab Sports Board press release, Guinness Adjudicator Carlos Martinez flew to Lahore to adjudicate nine attempts on the first day of the Punjab Youth Festival in the eastern city of Lahore.
But due to shortage of time, participants could attempt six and entered the book.
“I congratulate the Punjab Youth Festival organisers on setting a field for new records,” Martinez said.
The first event was hockey where an 11-member team set a record of making 43 passes in one minute. The team set the record in their third attempt.
The same team set another record in hockey of farthest dribbling of the ball. The team dribbled the ball to 979.2 metres in three minutes.
Muhammad Rashid of Karachi made it to the Guinness by opening 40 bottle caps with his head in one minute. In one of the most fascinating attempts, he broke the previous record of 24 openings, set by Germany’s Ahmed Tafzi.
In the largest sequins mosaic category, Muhammad Salim Amin set a record by making a picture of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif measuring 6.2 square metres using 325,000 sequins, beating the previous record of a two-by-three-metre mosaic of 300,000 sequins set by Hungarian students.
In the category of most badminton shuttlecocks shuttled in a minute, Muhammad Wajid and Atique set a record by exchanging the shuttle 123 times.
And in the last event, Rashid created his second and the day’s sixth record by kicking 50 coconuts down the heads of people standing in a round.
Today, attempts will be made to create records for fastest time to dress a male mannequin, most martial arts kicks in one hour and largest paint swatch.
