CPI sees marginal rise in Feb

Consumer Price Index (CPI) has risen marginally by 0.1 percent to reach 108.4 points in February compared to January this year. The Index has increased by 0.7 percent compared to same month last year, said Ministry of Development Planning & Statistics (MDPS).

On Month on Month (MoM) basis, five main groups registered increase. “Food and Beverages” and “Miscellaneous Goods and Services” increased by 1.8 percent each, “Transport” by 0.8 percent, “Clothing and Footwear” by 0.4 percent, and “Furniture and Household Equipment” by 0.1 percent.
“Recreation and Culture” group registered a fall of 1.5 percent, and “Housing, Water, Electricity and other Fuel” fell by 0.6 percent.
The Year-on-Year (Y-o-Y) rise in the prices was due to increase in “Transport” group by 5.9 percent”, “Education” group by 3 percent, “Miscellaneous Goods and Services” group by 1.8 percent, “Furniture and Household Equipment” group by 1.4 percent, and “Clothing and Footwear” group by 0.2 percent.
